Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada said here on Thursday that Tokyo is
interested in expanding ties with Tehran. 7/16/2010
Japan Foreign Ministry on Friday quoted Katsuya
Okada as telling Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for the Asia-Pacific Affairs,
Mohammad-Ali Fathollahi, that the Iran-Japan ties are historical and deep
rooted, so need to be upgraded.
He called on Iran to strive for 20
percent uranium enrichment to win international confidence in its nuclear
program.
Fathollahi for his part urged talks between Tehran and Tokyo in
different levels.
“Iran is ready for extensive cooperation with Japan in
favor of Afghan reconstruction.”
He said Iran will continue diplomatic
talks to solve its nuclear problem.
