Tehran-Tokyo relations have been constructed on mutual understanding and confidence, he said, adding that the two countries enjoy amicable ties.

Tokyo attaches great importance to its ties with Tehran, he said, referring to Iran as a country enjoying rich culture and civilization.

Okada further voiced his country’s interest to boost economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

He emphasized that pursuance of peaceful nuclear technology is a legitimate right of the Iranian nation, underlining the need for materialization of the Tehran Declaration.

The Japanese FM noted that Tokyo believes that Tehran Declaration will play a key role in confidence-building process at international arena.

Known as the Tehran Declaration, the agreement was signed on May 17 by senior officials of Iran, Brazil and Turkey on the sidelines of the G15 summit meeting in Tehran.

Based on the agreement, Tehran accepted to send 1,200 kilograms of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for a total of 120 kilograms of highly-enriched uranium which will be used as nuclear fuel for the country’s medical research reactor.
