Mottaki arrived here Sunday afternoon on a short
visit to discuss issues of mutual interest with senior Japanese officials
including his Japanese counterpart Katsuya Okada.
Komura stressed the
absolute rights of all members of the International Atomic Energy Agency and
signatories of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, including Iran, to use nuclear
energy for peaceful purposes.
He said no country could ever deny the
eligible rights of other states.
Also present in the meeting was Japan’s
former prime minister Yasuo fukuda who currently serves as the top advisor of
Iran-Japan Friendship Group.
Supporting Tehran-Tokyo all-out cooperation
particularly in energy field, Yasuo also welcomed the recent nuclear agreement
signed about exchange of Iran's low-enriched uranium.
Known as the
Tehran Declaration, the agreement was signed on May 17 by senior officials of
Iran, Brazil and Turkey on the sidelines of the G15 summit meeting in Tehran.
Based on the agreement, Tehran accepted to send 1,200 kilograms of its
low-enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for a total of 120 kilograms of
highly-enriched uranium which will be used as nuclear fuel for the country’s
medical research reactor.
